The Young Money moola maker joins a long, fancy list of musical superstars like Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Kanye West and Mariah Carey to serve as spokesperson for the popular pop. Nicki first tweeted out a link for the one-minute, 33 second spot Sunday afternoon, then celebrated with her newly recovered Twitter flock. The commercial starts with the crack of a can, as the spot's two principal characters begin to drink their Pespi Cola. At the same time, Minaj's "Moment 4 Life" begins to play as the lively soda drinkers navigate through various scenes in which everyone else is frozen in time. Together, they find a skateboarder stuck in midair trying to land a kick-flip, then run through a suspended soccer game on the beach, a food fight and a Betsey Johnson runway show. In fact, even Johnson herself is stuck, unable to move.
The spot seems to suggest that Pepsi loyalists enjoy a full, adventurous life united by both cola and song. By the time the commercial's two lead actors reach their final destination, a sold-out Nicki Minaj concert, they discover frenzied Barbz and Kens frozen in the stands while a statue Nicki stands onstage in mid-song.
With her eyes wide and pink wig perfectly in place, the Roman Reloaded MC is rescued when the two heroes each crack another can of pop. It is then that Minaj is able to finish her song and invites everyone to one big world party, even if it only lasts a few short moments.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? On the foggy streets of San Francisco, tech superstars and the homeless can be hard to tell apart in their identical hoodies. But there's a key difference: smartphones and cash in some pockets, neither in others.
These two crowds will soon find themselves even closer together when Twitter moves its headquarters into one of the city's poorest areas later this year, drawing attention to the divide between the tech haves and have-nots that crops up whenever wealthy companies rub shoulders with communities that haven't seen the benefits of the latest boom.
Still, optimism reigns in San Francisco, especially when it comes to the promise of technology to improve people's lives.
Recently, a crowd of such optimists came together for a "hackathon," a weekend of intense work and little sleep, as part of a nonprofit project called Creative Currency. Engineers and entrepreneurs joined with designers and neighborhood advocates to figure out how technology could help people in the Tenderloin and Mid-Market areas of the city who don't have roofs over their heads, much less web browsers.
"All people need dignity, right? And the base of dignity is being able to recognize and feel like you're part of humanity," said Aynne Valencia, a San Francisco designer who has worked for some of the biggest tech companies.
Over the weekend, Valencia and a team of 19 others designed a mobile wash station that people could use to take showers and launder their clothes. The project, RefreshSF, would be funded through small donations made via text message to pay not just for the wash stations themselves but to employ attendants who would ensure the stations didn't suffer the same foul-smelling fate of so many San Francisco public restrooms.
Young urban professionals risk coming across as patronizing when they come into neighborhoods they might otherwise shun ?and they also risk failure if they don't understand how the neighborhood works.
To pre-empt that problem, Creative Currency organizers prior to the hackathon surveyed about 20 community organizations, 155 residents and 37 local businesses to gauge the neighborhood's needs.
"It was actually really great to be reached out to," said Kristen Growney Yamamoto, co-executive director of the Glide Foundation, one of the city's largest providers of homeless services.
Another proposal, Bridge, intends to solve what Yamamoto and others described as one of the most maddening problems faced by San Francisco's homeless. To get a bed for the night, shelter-seekers must line up early in the morning to get their names entered in the city's reservation system. Standing in line can take hours. Even then, a spot isn't guaranteed ? most don't find out until early evening whether they have a place to sleep.
Barry Roeder, a San Francisco management consultant, wants to eliminate the lines by creating a neighborhood-wide network of touch-screen kiosks where people could make and check reservations themselves. The system could also notify people by text message if they received a bed ? the Creative Currency survey found that while few residents have smartphones, about 60 percent have access to some kind of cell phone.
If Bridge works as hoped, the idea is that by freeing up people's time, they'd have more chance to do things to help themselves, such as look for work.
Before that can happen, Roeder acknowledges several challenges would have to be overcome.
"The nightmare that comes to mind is a busted ATM that's been graffitied and peed on," he said. Even tougher, said Yamamoto, would be the labor involved in grafting the system onto the city's existing archaic reservation network or building a new one from scratch.
Jake Levitas, research director at the Gray Area Foundation For The Arts, the San Francisco digital arts nonprofit that conceived Creative Currency, believes that such obstacles are best surmounted by applying the hacker mindset to community issues.
In Silicon Valley-speak, the word "hacker" is more often used to describe someone who comes up with a clever solution to a frustrating problem rather than someone who's committing cybercrimes. Levitas says hackers in the positive sense of the term start from the premise that problems are solvable and then work quickly and cheaply to solve them, learning from their mistakes and trying again ? what the startup world refers to as "iterating."
In a sense, he said he hopes the same mentality that has helped once-small startups to challenge the dominance of companies like Microsoft can make strides against a seemingly intractable problem like homelessness.
"I don't think anybody who comes to our events thinks that they're going to solve poverty in a weekend," Levitas said. "But I think they do think they can do something that contributes."

Report: Fake bomb exposes Olympic security

Britain has begun an inquiry into security at the London Olympics after a worker reportedly smuggled a fake bomb onto the site to expose flaws in its anti-terror defenses.
The worker carried the artificial bomb through two checkpoints without being searched by security staff, according to a British tabloid newspaper report.
Once inside, he was able to drive the package through the site, taking it past the velodrome before posing for a photograph with it outside the Olympic Stadium, The Sun reported.
The stunt, 24 hours before 40,000 people attended the official opening of the stadium on Saturday, was designed to show how vulnerable the site, which also includes the athletes' village, could be to a terrorist attack.
Fears that the international spectacle could be targeted by extremists have led organisers to spend $1.6 billion (?1 billion) on security for the games including 23,700 guards, 14,000 troops at key times and an 11-mile electric fence.
A spokesman for Britain?s Home Office told The Telegraph?it had asked games organizers to "look into this incident and report back to the Home Secretary urgently".

National Christmas Tree has died near White House
WASHINGTON (AP) ? Federal officials say the National Christmas Tree planted near the White House a year ago has died and is being removed.
The National Park Service says the Colorado blue spruce died of "transplant shock." It came from a tree farm in New Jersey last year and was planted on the Ellipse just south of the White House in March 2011.
The tree replaced a tree that had stood on the Ellipse since 1978 but was destroyed by high winds in February 2011.
Workers are removing the dead tree Saturday. The National Park Service says it has already identified a Colorado blue spruce to replace the tree and will plant the new National Christmas Tree in October, just in time to be decorated for the holiday.

Mystikal gives a bit of NO flavor to Jazz Fest
NEW ORLEANS (AP) ? Thousands turned out Friday to see New Orleans rapper Mystikal perform one last time before returning to jail on a probation violation.
The rapper, whose real name is Michael Tyler, was released from a Louisiana prison in 2010 after serving six years for sexual battery and extortion. He returns to jail May 14 following a February arrest on a misdemeanor charge of domestic abuse battery.
In April, the rapper's attorney, Roy Maughan Jr., said Tyler and the victim in the domestic battery case were longtime domestic partners.
The rapper alluded to his legal problems on stage Friday
"I'm going through some things, but it's gonna be all right," Mystikal said to cheering fans. "Fellas if you get into it with your girl, just walk away. Me? I'm gonna run."
He also shouted: "Eighty-one days and I will be back," referring to the length of his pending jail term.
State District Judge Tony Marabella of Baton Rouge ordered Tyler to serve 90 days in jail for the violation but gave him credit for the nine days he was detained after his Feb. 22 arrest.
Mystikal thanked his fans for their continued support and, in between a few water breaks, pushed through a set list that included fan favorites "Bouncin' Back, "Danger (Been So Long)," and "Here I Go."
"He's been through a lot, but I like artists who keep pushing past their struggles," said Erik Hamilton, of New Orleans. "A lot of people focus on an artist's problems and forget that he's a regular person and regular people sometimes have problems.
"I'm disappointed to hear he has to go back (to jail) but he'll have some time to sit back and realize what he's done and hopefully he will be a better man when he comes out."
Hamilton's wife, Frenchell Pannell-Hamilton, said she enjoyed the rapper's performance.
"We have to support our local musicians and stand behind them," she said. "That helps keep New Orleans strong."
Tony Jones, visiting from Hawaii, said he didn't know what happened to get Mystikal a return ticket to prison, but hoped "the judge was lenient."
Jason Foster, a Charlotte, N.C. native now living in New Orleans, said he grew up with Mystikal. This was his first time at the Jazz Fest and his first time seeing the rapper's live show, which included music by his full brass band "Hot Sausage."
"He played all his hits and gave a great show," Foster said.
Tyler pleaded guilty in 2003 to forcing his hairstylist to perform what a judge called "continuous sex acts." The victim in that case accused Tyler and two bodyguards of making her perform oral sex after accusing her of stealing $80,000 worth of his checks.
The woman denied stealing any money.

Many of you know that I?m not a big fan of the foam-on-food trend.
What?s the foam-on-food trend you ask? The foam-on-food trend is one of the molecular gastronomy fads sweeping the nation (well, it?s been sweeping the nation for a couple of years and has now made it to Disney World), and this one means that every food and its brother seems to have a ?foam? on top these days.

Some foams are bubbly and soapy looking like the one pictured below (the name of this restaurant will be reserved to protect the innocent, because it?s a very good restaurant that I like a lot and I?m hoping they?ll stop doing the foam thing soon). And while you?re used to foam on your coffee and cappuccino, you?re not necessarily used to it on your steak?

As it turned out, the All Natural Lemonade was very good?and very sour (yay!). And the Wild Berry Foam didn?t make that sucker any sweeter! Nope; the foam itself was pretty sour as well. So the drink was sour-on-sour ? kind of like your kids? new favorite candy these days.

Personally, I loved it! While the taste was overwhelming, I liked the different flavors of the berry and the lemon, and since I was using a straw, I didn?t really have to feel the foaminess.

Filled with cool clothes, hot cars and even hotter women, "Boyfriend" — directed by the mysteriously named Director X (née Lil X) — is the stuff of every newly minted heterosexual adult's dreams ... only on overdrive. It's not enough to have a few cool cars; let's get 50! And some of them should be vintage! Why stop at one female love interest when we could get a baker's dozen? As if the icy, decidedly sophisticated strains of "Boyfriend" weren't enough to tip you off, with the video, Bieber very clearly serves notice: He's all grown-up.
And while that maturation was inevitable — Bieber's been saying for months now that his Believe album would push the boundaries — it remains to be seen if his fanbase (which, speaking in the broadest of terms, is predominantly female, not to mention predominantly pre-teen) can handle his transformation. Not to mention that now, for the first time, he's not the only heartthrob on the block. Sure, the guys in One Direction may be his pals, but they'd like nothing more than to eat his lunch. And those dudes in the Wanted? Well, let's just say we wouldn't take our eye off them, either.
In short, Bieber's career is now at a crossroads. He cannot stop the advance of age, nor does it seem like he really cares to — he's making the kind of music his 18-year-old self wants to make. His fans will either embrace this new chapter or they won't. Maybe he'll lose some of them to the nefarious clutches of 1D. But the Biebs is moving on regardless. One can't sing "Baby" forever now, can they?
Of course, watching the "Boyfriend" video, you can't help but think that Bieber couldn't care less about any of those things. Early North Americans lived with extinct giant beasts
ScienceDaily (May 3, 2012) ? A new University of Florida study that determined the age of skeletal remains provides evidence humans reached the Western Hemisphere during the last ice age and lived alongside giant extinct mammals.
The study published online May 3 in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology addresses the century-long debate among scientists about whether human and mammal remains found at Vero Beach in the early 1900s date to the same time period. Using rare earth element analysis to measure the concentration of naturally occurring metals absorbed during fossilization, researchers show modern humans in North America co-existed with large extinct mammals about 13,000 years ago, including mammoths, mastodons and giant ground sloths.
"The Vero site is still the only site where there was an abundance of actual human bones, not just artifacts, associated with the animals," said co-author Barbara Purdy, UF anthropology professor emeritus and archaeology curator emeritus at the Florida Museum of Natural History on the UF campus. "Scientists who disputed the age of the human remains in the early 20th century just did not want to believe that people were in the Western Hemisphere that early. And 100 years later, every single book written about the prehistory of North America includes this site and the controversy that still exists."
Following discovery of the fossils in South Florida between 1913 and 1916, some prominent scientists convinced researchers the human skeletons were from more recent burials and not as old as the animals, a question that remained unanswered because no dating methods existed.
"The uptake of rare earth elements is time-dependent, so an old fossil is going to have very different concentrations of rare earth elements than bones from a more recent human burial," said lead author Bruce MacFadden, Florida Museum vertebrate paleontology curator. "We found the human remains have statistically the same concentrations of rare earth elements as the fossils."
The little information known about the first humans to appear in North America is primarily based on bone fragments and artifacts, such as stone points used for hunting. Other sites in California, Montana and Texas show human presence around the same time period based on artifacts, but two nearly complete human skeletons were discovered at the Vero Beach site.
As bones begin to fossilize they absorb elements from the surrounding sediment, and analysis is effective in distinguishing different-aged fossils deposited in the same locality. Instead of radiocarbon dating, which requires the presence of collagen in bones, researchers used mass spectrometry to compare rare earth elements in the specimens because a lack of collagen in the Vero Beach specimens made radiocarbon dating impossible, Purdy said.
Researchers analyzed samples from 24 human bones and 48 animal fossils in the Florida Museum's collections and determined the specimens were all from the late Pleistocene epoch about 13,000 years ago. While rare earth element analysis method is not as precise as radiocarbon dating, Purdy said the significance of human skeletons found in Vero Beach is unquestionable in terms of their presence in the Western Hemisphere.
"It is important to note that they [the authors] did not provide an absolute or chronometric date, rather the geochemistry shows that the trace elemental geochemistry is the same, thus the bones must be of the same age," said Kenneth Tankersley, an assistant professor in the University of Cincinnati anthropology and geology departments.
Native fauna during the last ice age ranged from extinct jaguars and saber-toothed cats to shrews, mice and squirrels still present in Florida. Researchers speculate humans would have been wanderers much like the animals because there was less fresh water than in later years, Purdy said.
"Humans would have been following the animals for a food supply, but that's about all we know," Purdy said. "We know what some of their tools looked like and we know they were hunting the extinct animals but we know practically nothing about their family life, such as how these ancient people raised their children and grieved for their dead."
Study co-authors include Krista Church of UF and the University of Texas, and Thomas Stafford Jr., of Stafford Research in Colorado and the University of Copenhagen.
"Vero is a historical context for the development of archaeology -- these are the beginnings of the people of America," MacFadden said. "The site is well-known in the literature but has been discounted, so we're sort of reviving an understanding of this important locality and using newer techniques to revive the question about the antiquity of the humans."

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Chris Wondolowski scored twice to take over the MLS lead as the San Jose Earthquakes beat D.C. United 5-3 Wednesday night.
Steven Lenhart also scored two goals to help the Earthquakes (7-1-1) extend their unbeaten stretch to 6-0-1 since losing to Houston on March 14.
Wondolowski moved past New York's Thierry Henry and into the league lead with 10 goals. Wondolowski has scored 44 times since the start of the 2010 season.
Justin Morrow had his first goal of the year for the Earthquakes, who overcame an early score from United's Dwayne De Rosario and second-half goals by Daniel Woolard and Hamdi Salihi.
D.C. United (4-3-3) snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak.
United's defense looked suspect without injured center backs Emiliano Dudar and Dejan Jakovic, and San Jose took advantage by scoring three goals in the first half in the space of 12 minutes.
Lenhart opened San Jose's scoring in the 19th minute by walking onto a blocked shot of teammate Tressor Moreno and slashing the ball home from 19 yards to tie the score at 1-1.
Wondolowski got on the board two minutes later, cashing in from just inside the penalty spot after a flurry of quick passes by San Jose. Morrow extended the Earthquakes' lead to 3-1 in the 31st minute with a shot that caromed off D.C. midfielder Danny Cruz, leaving goalkeeper Joe Willis little chance.
Wondolowski scored again in the 64th minute, overpowering Willis with a header off Steven Beitashour's cross, giving Beitashour five assists this year.
Woolard scored on a diving header in the 64th minute to pull United to 4-2.
Lenhart closed out his day by chesting home the rebound of Marvin Chavez's ringing shot off the crossbar in the 74th minute to restore San Jose's three-goal lead.
Salihi closed the scoring in the 88th minute after he took a lead pass and flipped his shot over San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch.
De Rosario put D.C. up in the eighth minute with a steaming shot from nearly 30 yards, but United's defense simply wasn't up to the challenge.

BEIJING (AP) ? Chen Guangcheng's sudden change of heart to leave China after insisting for days he wanted to stay has caught his American supporters off guard. But his reason was simple: His family's safety came first.
Reliant on relatives to be his eyes on the world, Chen and his family share a bond strengthened by years of enforced isolation and a shared fight against vengeful local officials. His son was taken from him two years ago. His daughter has been harassed, his wife beaten, his mother followed by guards as she tilled their fields.
Though the blind activist initially agreed to let China relocate him and his family to the northeastern coastal city of Tianjin, he now says that won't be far enough away from their persecutors in eastern Shandong province to guarantee their safety.
Chen is begging the U.S. to help him go abroad with his wife and two children. He would like his widowed mother to join them.
It's a stunning reversal from a hard-won compromise between China and the United States that saw Chen leave the U.S. Embassy in Beijing where he had taken shelter after a daring nighttime escape from 20 months of abusive house arrest in his rural town.
Just a day ago, Chen's mind seemed made up to remain in China after he was allowed a pair of phone calls with his wife, who had been brought with their children to Beijing via bullet train, U.S. Ambassador Gary Locke said Thursday.
"He spoke with his wife on the phone twice and then we asked him what did he want to do," Locke said. "He jumped up very excited and said, 'Let's go.'"
The alternative, Locke said, was a protracted negotiation, with Chen stuck in the embassy and his family at home and at risk.
"He knew that ? and was very aware that he might have to spend many, many years in the embassy," Locke said.
On the way to the hospital, Chen was "emotional, happy about the fact that he was going to be reunited with his family," a U.S. official said Wednesday, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.
Photos of the reunion released Thursday by the U.S. show Chen in a wheelchair in a bright hospital hallway smiling warmly as he greeted his wife and two children. His 6-year-old daughter, Kesi, wore pigtails and his son of about 10, Kerui, was dressed in a T-shirt and sweat pants. In a second shot, Kerui rested a tentative hand on his father's wheelchair.
The moment marked the first time in two years that the boy had seen his father, diplomats said.
The separation was never by choice.
"They broke up and hurt Chen Guangcheng's family," Chen's lawyer, Li Jinsong, said Thursday. "It was the local government officials who wouldn't let the son go home because he was getting older and was better able to understand things, and what the local officials most feared was that Chen Guangcheng and his family would be able to communicate with the outside world. So, he was left with his maternal grandmother."
A self-taught lawyer, the 40-year-old Chen is best known ? and earned the most enmity from local authorities ? for his activism exposing abuses in his community related to China's one-child policy, including forced abortions and sterilizations, in a scandal that prompted the central government to punish some local officials.
Chen and his wife, Yuan Weijing, were allowed two children under an exception for disabled people, his supporters say, although Shandong's published guidelines say only a disabled person whose first child is a girl is eligible for a second one. It's not clear if Chen was ever reprimanded or fined for his second child.
Wednesday's reunion was initially painted as a triumph for U.S. diplomacy, but Chen now says his exit from the embassy was a rushed and bittersweet compromise. He said the Chinese government was threatening to send his family back to their rural home, and that U.S. officials pressured him to leave.
"I decided to leave" the embassy, Chen told The Associated Press late Wednesday. "But I felt very frustrated, especially over the threats to my family. They said if I didn't leave, they would take my children and family back to Shandong."
Chen served four years in prison after a 2006 conviction on what his supporters say were charges fabricated by officials in Dongshigu, Chen's home village in Shandong.
Even after he finished serving his term, officials were ruthless in their treatment of the family, beating his wife and mother, and forcing Kerui to leave his parents. Even Kesi was targeted, with guards searching her book bag each day after school.
Chen worried that conditions would be even worse if his family was sent back.
Those concerns were heightened when his wife told him in the hospital that after he escaped last month, seven surveillance cameras were installed inside their home and guards armed with sticks began sleeping there and eating at their table.
"I feel that if my safety could have been ensured I would have wanted to stay," he said. "But now when I look at it, I don't have that kind of hope any more. I now think what I really need is to be with my family and rest."
He added that he was afraid Chinese authorities would think of some excuse to send him back to Shandong despite assurances from the central government that he would be allowed to resettle elsewhere and attend law school, with his tuition and living expenses paid.
Chen's wife has borne much of the retaliatory abuse. In family photos, she looks cheerful, a broad smile gleaming against her bronze farmer's tan, but her ordeal has been long and relentless.
In a video plea taped and posted online last week after his escape, Chen railed against the abuse of his wife.
"They broke into my house, and more than a dozen men pushed my wife to the ground and covered her in a blanket, then beat and kicked her for hours," he said, without specifying when the attack occurred.
In a letter smuggled out of their village last year, Yuan described a Feb. 18 beating that lasted two hours and left her with what she believed were a broken rib and broken brow bone, both still untreated.
She said guards put metal sheets over their windows, confiscated their belongings, denied them medical care and barred them from shopping for food.
She described how a district Communist Party official, Zhang Jian, punched her in the head after she complained about authorities taking the family's property.
In 2007, Yuan's passport and phone were confiscated at the Beijing airport when she tried to fly to the Philippines to accept a Magsaysay Award, Asia's version of the Nobel Prize, on Chen's behalf. She was forcibly returned to Shandong.
In 2009, Yuan's brother-in-law was killed in a car accident. She told a U.S. broadcaster that guards laughed when she pleaded with them to let her visit her grieving relatives.
"Physical pain, I think I can endure that, but the mental pain, I really cannot endure it," Yuan said in a taped telephone interview with New Tang Dynasty TV at the time. "They do not even let me see my sister to comfort her, and my mother. I really feel very sad."
Nor has Chen's extended family escaped the punishment.
His elder brother, Guangfu, was detained last week and is still in custody. Guangfu's adult son, Kegui, used a cleaver to attack local officials who raided his house in the middle of the night after realizing Chen had escaped. He is now a wanted man on the run.
Chen's mother, who lives with the couple, has also been under constant surveillance, with as many as three guards watching her when she works the fields. Chen said in last week's video that guards have beaten her. Around 80 years old, she is believed to still be under house arrest.
"But I don't know what her situation is," he added. "I don't know if she is safe."
